One thing that happens to guitars from time to time is that the neck starts to warp. What happens is that over time with the stress from the strings as well as changes in humidity, the neck will start to bend just slightly. Over a longer period of time this bend can be very noticeable. If you have a bent guitar neck, there are some things that you can do.
The first thing that you need to do with your guitar is to identify that there is actually a neck problem. You can look down at your strings and their distance from the fretboard. If you see that the strings are straight but the neck looks rather bend, you might have a neck that is messed up. Secondly, you can eye ball the guitar neck from the top down to see if there is some bending to it.
Most guitars have something in them called a truss rod. This is a long metal rod that goes through the middle of the guitar that will let you adjust the neck when it does bend. Don’t do this yourself as it takes someone that knows what they are doing. Take your instrument to a guitar shop and get this adjusted which should fix the neck.
At times if warped too far, you might think that your guitar won’t ever work again. One tip is to get a capo and place it on the first fret. This won’t make the problem go away completely, but it will make more of the frets work again and give some life to the guitar.
Get light gauged strings. These will be thinner making them easier to hold down on your instrument. This helps you press down the strings in areas where they might be a little bit high due to the warped neck.
For some guitars which have a bolt on neck, you might have to replace this part of it completely to fix a completely broken neck.
How has the Lollapalooza lineup changed over the years? This article will give you a brief history as well as provide you with some lineup rumors about next year’s music festival. Perry Farrell was the driving force behind Lollapalooza in 1991. Since then the annual music festival has provided inspiration for countless other music festivals that present a variety acts, big and small, to large crowds year after year.
The Lollapalooza bands have always been diverse. At the first show in 1991 the genre’s mixed it up when Nine Inch Nails and Violent Femmes performed on the same stage as Ice-T. The Lollapalooza schedule for 2011 has not been confirmed yet but music diversity will probably be key. Lollapalooza lineup rumors include Coldplay, Smashing Pumpkins, Kanye West, No Doubt and Muse. We’ll just have to wait and see who ends up on the bill.
Lollapalooza has had a number of standout lineups over the years. The Lollapalooza 2006 lineup is considered by many to be one of the best with The Subways, My Morning Jacket, Death Cab for Cutie, Blue October, Nada Surf and Sonic Youth among the highlights. The Lollapalooza lineup 2007 was equally impressive with Jack’s Mannequin, Daft Punk, Patti Smith and Ben Harper among the memorable performers.
Black Lips, The Black Keys, Perry Farrell with surprise guest Slash and The Raconteurs were bright spots among the Lollapalooza lineup 2008. The Lollapalooza lineup ’08 also included The Cool Kids and MGMT giving performances that made the rounds on YouTube and blogs. Searching Lollapalooza lineup wiki will give you the full lineup from each year of the event. Lollapalooza has provided inspiration for other music festivals including Bonnaroo, Rothbury, Coachella, Vans Warped Tour and Ozzfest.
The Ozzfest lineup has been equally impressive over the years since it’s inception in 1996. Ozzy Osbourne’s manager and wife Sharon Osbourne turned the event into a commercial success following a struggle in the late 90s. Rob Zombie, Pantera, Slipknot, Marilyn Manson, Incubus, Mudvayne and Linkin Park are just some of the acts who have helped Ozzfest become what it is today.
Another festival worth checking out is the Vans Warped Tour. It started in 1995 and has attracted some of the top acts in alternative and rock music. The Warped Tour lineup has had an amazing diversity of genres that has included Radiohead, My Chemical Romance, MxPx, Anti-Flag, The Starting Line, Avenged Sevenfold, Less Than Jake, Gogol Bordello, The Casualties, Rise Against, The Academy Is…, Joan Jett & The Blackhearts and Helmet. While the Warped Tour has been criticized for high concession prices, organizers of the tour say that it is justified due to increased attendance and the large number of acts in the lineup.
Lollapalooza ticket prices can range from around $190 to upwards of $400, but this price usually includes priority seating or group rates. Lollapalooza tickets can also be purchased on the day of the event. Lollapalooza has a long history and was the inspiration for a number of music festivals that have come along since. It’s found a happy home among the many music festivals fans love to see each year. I can’t wait to hear what the Lollapalooza lineup is for next year it’s sure to be another amazing event!
Cleveland, Ohio has always been associated with greatness: the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Drew Carey, Lebron James and the list just goes on. Well, chalk up another tally for Cleveland with the alternative rock quintet Silence of a Silhouette. The band has already made quite a splash on Myspace and even performed on the Ernie Ball stage at the Vans’ Warped Tour this year.
Andy (lead guitar), Jeff H (guitar/keyboards/backup vocals), Jeff K (drums), Justin (bass) and vocalist Danny make up the lineup for this up and coming rock sensation. The guys have each separately thought about being professional musicians, but it wasn’t until they were all together that they decided to make their dream become a reality. I, along with legions of dedicated fans, think that was a very good decision. Silence of a Silhouette. Hmmm… now that’s an interesting name. According to guitarist Andy, Jeff and Danny are the creators of the name, “Well Dan and Jeff were reading a book and in the book it said Ashes of a Silhouette and for some reason Dan thought instead of ashes it should be silence.” That name has since stuck but fans know them better as simply “S-O-S.”
Cleveland is not just the home base for this band. The guys actually love to play there too. With so many choices of venues, who wouldn’t want to play in Cleveland? Notable places for Silence of a Silhouette include the Agora Ballroom and the Grog Shop. Silence of a Silhouette also just finished a partial tour with the Vans’ Warped Tour this summer. They had the opportunity of playing on the Ernie Ball stage and experienced a taste of what is soon to be their future.
The music of Silence of a Silhouette is characterized by driving guitar riffs and memorable beats. “Pandora’s Box” being a key example of this. “…Pandora is actually our favorite to play normally it’s got that catchy beat to it and when it gets into that breakdown I just go crazy…” says Andy. But don’t get to thinking that Silence of a Silhouette is just like any other budding rock band out there; the guys signed with a management group in 2007, which changed a lot for the group. Andy says, “It [things] changed drastically. Although our contract just ended, the time we were with them was awesome. Between getting awesome press, pictures, shows, and merchandise, we really expanded.” He goes on to add; “I think the main thing that separates us from anyone out there is our energetic stage performance. It’s almost like a war zone between us band mates when we get on stage. We are swinging guitars, microphones, stage diving, or some kind of crazy antic for the fans to enjoy”
Silence of a Silhouette’s new album Escaping Reality is available on iTunes, Amazon, and their own online merchandise store, which is accessible through their Myspace page: [http://www.myspace.com/silenceofasilhoette]. All I can say is that the world better prepare themselves. Silence of a Silhouette is pumped and has a long and bright future ahead of them. Andy closed the interview with a few words for all the Silence of a Silhouette fans out there, “The one thing from the bottom of all our hearts is that we love our fans. If it wasn’t for them we would still be at step one.”
